Lass of Aughrim is a traditional Irish ballad that Ryan Meagher brought us together to record. Here's what he said about the song and the project:
"I was first drawn to the tune through the James Joyce story, “The Dead,” in Dubliners. I wanted to know what the song that Bartell D’Arcy sings sounded like, and I found a few nice versions. Through that I learned that there was a version in a movie of the story directed by John Huston. And then I decided to transcribe it to put into a suite of music I had been writing that revolved around James Joyce’s works. That suite is semi-complete, and in all likelihood will never reach its full completion, but it felt like a perfect vehicle for this trio."
"Sometime during the pandemic, the three of us had the idea to collaborate on something remotely. I suggested this tune, and a couple others got floated around, as well. We tossed a few recordings to each other through the internet, and when things became more comfortable to play in-person, we decided to play it together. It was a fun, organic, and hands-on collaboration that turned into something we felt couldn’t be left alone. We needed to share this with you all, and we hope you enjoy."
